Letter from Walmart Regional Manager in Response to Problems at the South Euclid Store

October 23, 2014 Leave a Comment

mailstackAfter several public safety incidents and customer service issues, several community members wrote to Walmart to complain. Susan Efroymson has shared a copy of an email from Bill O’Brien, NEO Market Manager in which he offers a number of intended improvements and asked for our community’s feedback. Please review his email and respond accordingly. Susan shared with him that this email would be shared publicly and is offered here with permission. Let’s use this opportunity to make a kiddush Hashem and promote productive dialogue.

Susan,

Sorry it took so long to get back to you, but I take your complaint serious and had to work the store several days this week to look into the issues and get a plan together to make sure that you and everyone in the area has a great shopping experience in the store. Here are the things that we are doing to get the store back to where it needs to be on a daily basis.

Walmart – Don’t Give Up on Safety Just Because You Have a Lot of Shopping To Do

September 21, 2014 Leave a Comment

walmartpolicetapeJust this past week, a community member was approached by a man in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter in South Euclid claiming to have a gun and attempting to steal her purse. Fortunately, he was unsuccessful and no one was seriously injured. No doubt incidents like this are frequent at this store that could easily have several arrests per day and has shocking crime statistics.

However this incident serves as a good reminder to our community to not take personal safety  lightly! At this busy time when there is so much shopping to do, please continue to be careful about safety and consider the following. If you have more to share, please let us know in the comments. It is hoped that schools and shuls and families take the time to share this warning and come up with their own strategies.

  • Avoid shopping alone at places like Walmart after dark
  • If necessary, consider ways to protect yourself  – Panic button on your vehicle’s key fob, mace, or other forms of self-defense
  • Voice your concerns with:

Severance Town Center hit with foreclosure lawsuit after Walmart departure, loan default

August 27, 2014 Leave a Comment

walmartpark(Plain Dealer)

Severance Town Center, a prominent retail property in Cleveland Heights, is the subject of a foreclosure lawsuit filed in Cuyahoga County.

On July 1, a lender asked to foreclose on the troubled shopping center, after the property’s out-of-state owner failed to repay the balance on a $43 million mortgage. Now, the litigation is working its way through Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, where it’s possible that a judge might appoint an outside expert — called a receiver — to manage the 600,000-square-foot complex.

Walmart move shifts burden to South Euclid police

December 16, 2013 Leave a Comment

walmartcost(Cleveland.com)(Ed: Looks like South Euclid has inherited a whole lot of crime and police time in exchange for a development that not everyone really wanted and is not going to really do much for the city. Police have been called already 110 times to the new location!)

The less-than-two-mile move Walmart made from Cleveland Heights to South Euclid is a short distance in driving time but a significant difference for police departments responding to calls from the supermarket giant.

Cleveland Heights police dumped an average of 305 calls for service per year since 2000 from the now-closed Mayfield Road store after the company moved to Warrensville Center Road and opened Oct. 16.

Walmart Peppers Made in Israel

December 15, 2013 Leave a Comment

coloredpeppersThere were some reports on Friday that Walmart shoppers had noticed that the peppers being sold were grown in Israel. These of course cannot be eaten unless terumos and maaseros have been separated. It is not known which varieties or packages, but it is more likely to include the red, orange, and yellow varieties. In previous years, we have seen Israeli Clementines and peppers at many area grocery stores (Israeli peppers are more common in the winter season). Also, look for Israeli Jaffa oranges that are being sold with an O-U indicating trumos and maaseros have already been separated.

The new Walmart Supercenter at Oakwood Commons has been open nearly a month, selling everything from groceries, to eyeglass lenses, to hardware – and drawing mixed reviews from independent business owners.

Some merchants told Northeast Ohio Media Group that the competition hurts. But one hardware retailer said he believes Walmart has helped his business of 19 years by bringing more traffic to the area.
