Seeking Full Time Middle School Math Teacher

Minimum Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Mathematics Education or a related field is required. An advanced degree and at least three years of experience teaching middle or high school math are preferred.

The middle school math teacher should demonstrate a passionate and energetic commitment to the Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School’s mission and vision. Experience with substantive curricular work, creative problem solving, team building, and a collaborative approach is essential. The teacher should be thoroughly familiar with recent developments in education in order to assess and implement a high-quality program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching five middle school math classes
  • Serving as an advisor and overseeing the academic and social growth of 10 advisees
  • Serving on a grade level team to plan, develop, and assess interdisciplinary units, project-based learning, and integrated programs
  • Serving as a productive member of the Middle School Mathematics Department
  • Engaging in school life and other duties as assigned

Joseph and Florence Mandel Jewish Day School, a private school, develops ethical leadership, confident critical thinking and a lifelong love of learning. By integrating superior general academics and Judaic studies, Mandel JDS achieves academic excellence in a nurturing, welcoming environment that engages and teaches to the whole child.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mordechai Turner, son of Tzvi and Devorah Turner.

The levaya will be tomorrow, Purim, Thursday, March 1st, at 11:30am at Cong. K’hal Yereim, 1173 S. Taylor Rd. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery.

The Turner family will be sitting shiva at 3613 Shannon Rd. until Wednesday morning, March 7th.

Minyanim

  • Shacharis daily 7:15am
  • Shacharis Sunday 8:30am
  • Mincha/Maariv 6:05pm
  • Purim there will be only Maariv at 10pm

No visitors after 10:30pm please.

A Purim Message for the Parents of Teens from Project Extreme

Dear Family and Friends of Project Extreme,

Each and every one of our children is a precious gem. The 24 hours of Purim pose a real live danger to Jewish children, everywhere. It is these 24 hours that expose many of our youth to the dangers of drinking, driving drunk or riding with a drunk driver and drug use. Purim parties and celebrations may also put our children into challenging peer pressure situations, for which they are unprepared to combat or resist.

Please review the Safe Purim checklist and ensure a safe and joyous Purim for yourself and your entire family.Here are some basic measures that will raise the odds of having a safe and healthy Purim.
  1. Know where your child/teen is at all times
  2. Know who they are hanging out with
  3. Speak to the Designated Driver and check in periodically to assure they are still sober
  4. MOST IMPORTANTLY- Inform your child/teen that it is OK for them to text/call at any time of day or night to ask to be picked up. Create a simple code word/letter they can text you letting you know they are in a situation that makes them uncomfortable for any reason, and assure them that they will be picked up and taken home with no lectures or blame. Read more about how this plan helped one family here.
