Interview with Glory Margaret Smith, Cashier and Cook at Kineret Kosher Pizza
(OutOfTheOrthobox.blogspot.com)
I think that every sizable Jewish community has its share of non-Jewish friends who work in its schools, synagogues, restaurants, and institutions. Often, our non-Jewish friends pick up on our cultural foibles, language quirks, and social connections.
Here in Cleveland, Gloria (whose real name, shockingly to many of us Clevelanders, is Glory) from Kineret Kosher Pizza is one of those friends. Everyone know Glory and Glory knows everyone. She’s been working in our community for almost 40 years, and I thought it might be fun to hear her insights and impressions of us.
9 Thoughts for Tu B’Shvat This Wed Night – Thursday Day
(Hakhel – Hakhel.info)
1. In honor of Tu B’Shevat, we provide by the following moving Tefillah from the Ben Ish Chai to be recited for your Esrog this Sukkos (courtesy of Mesivta Yochanan Shraga of Monsey).
2. The G’ra (Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim 131:6) writes that all four Rosh Hashanas that are written in the beginning of Meseches Rosh Hashana are all Yomim Tovim. The very fact that it is called Rosh Hashana should remind us that it is another opportunity to start again!

Twenty-four undergraduate students from Yeshiva University in New York delivered challahs and smiles to about a dozen clients of Jewish Family Service Association of Cleveland, mostly Holocaust survivors, Jan. 9. The students also stopped at the Cleveland Jewish News office that day as part of Jewish Life Coast to Coast, a 10-day program of the university’s Center for the Jewish Future.

How safe is your baby’s medicine bottle? Infant Tylenol and other liquid acetaminophen products have a new safety feature
(ConsumerReports.org)
Drug accidents send more kids under the age of 6 to the emergency room than car crashes. About 10,000 cases a year involve liquid medications, such as cough and cold medicines, as well as infant and child versions of the pain reliever and fever reducer acetaminophen (Tylenol and generic versions). It takes only a moment of caregiver inattention for a curious little one to grab a medicine bottle to try to get to the syrupy liquid inside.

How Does a Person Convert to Judaism By Rabbi Yirmiyohu Kaganoff
By Rabbi Yirmiyohu Kaganoff (RabbiKaganoff.com)
When our ancestors accepted responsibility to observe the Torah, they did so by performing bris milah, immersing themselves in a mikveh, and offering korbanos. A non-Jew who chooses to join the Jewish people is entering the same covenant and must follow a similar procedure (Kerisus 9a).
The privilege of becoming a ger tzedek requires one to follow very exacting guidelines. On a technical level, the ger is accepting responsibility to perform mitzvos. Through the gerus procedure, he creates an obligation upon himself to observe mitzvos (Birchas Shmuel, Kiddushin #15).
