A shopping strip at South Euclid’s busiest intersection is getting a fresh new look.
Work started July 5 on upgrades, including new storefront facades and signage, at the retail strip near the northwest corner of Cedar and South Green roads.

Residents of the Lowden Road neighborhood plan to picket at tonight’s South Euclid-Lyndhust school board meeting against the proposed Lowden Pointe senior apartment complex.
Homeowners whose lots surround the site fear it will bring traffic, construction, bright lights, an unsightly 130-space parking lot and low-income renters to the quiet residential neighborhood.

The Cedar Road property that was once home to the Young Israel Synagogue has sat vacant for about the past eight years, since the temple was demolished.
That, however, could soon change.
Just this past week, a community member was approached by a man in the parking lot of the Walmart Supercenter in South Euclid claiming to have a gun and attempting to steal her purse. Fortunately, he was unsuccessful and no one was seriously injured. No doubt incidents like this are frequent at this store that could easily have several arrests per day and has shocking crime statistics.
However this incident serves as a good reminder to our community to not take personal safety lightly! At this busy time when there is so much shopping to do, please continue to be careful about safety and consider the following. If you have more to share, please let us know in the comments. It is hoped that schools and shuls and families take the time to share this warning and come up with their own strategies.
There will be an open meeting for South Euclid residents to discuss the handling of juveniles and criminal activity in general. Judge Gayle Beyers, Juvenile Court Judge Allison Floyd and Detective Dave Volek will be present to answer questions and address concerns specific to your street.The meeting is Wednesday, Februrary 5th, 2014 7pm at City Hall. The community room is located on the second floor.

The less-than-two-mile move Walmart made from Cleveland Heights to South Euclid is a short distance in driving time but a significant difference for police departments responding to calls from the supermarket giant.
Cleveland Heights police dumped an average of 305 calls for service per year since 2000 from the now-closed Mayfield Road store after the company moved to Warrensville Center Road and opened Oct. 16.

The new Walmart Supercenter at Oakwood Commons has been open nearly a month, selling everything from groceries, to eyeglass lenses, to hardware – and drawing mixed reviews from independent business owners.
Some merchants told Northeast Ohio Media Group that the competition hurts. But one hardware retailer said he believes Walmart has helped his business of 19 years by bringing more traffic to the area.

The city’s Planning Commission held a public hearing April 11 to hear residents’ thoughts about the new South Euclid-Lyndhurst branch building to be built on South Green Road.
But, while that was the intent of the hearing, most people wanted to talk about the building being left behind.
New Parking Violations Bureau Decriminalizes Parking Infractions and provides Hearing Examiner to oversee appeals process.
In accordance with City Council’s approval of the establishment of a new Parking Violations Bureau and hiring of a Hearing Examiner, the City of South Euclid Police Department will begin the re-issuance of Parking Tickets on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at midnight.
The Police Department suspended the issuance of parking tickets in May 2012 pending City Council’s determination of a new procedure for paying fines and challenging parking tickets. On September 10, 2012 South Euclid City Council approved legislation creating a Parking Violations Bureau, decriminalizing parking tickets and making infractions civil offenses.
