Susan’s Suggestions for the Elections – Primary Tuesday, March 15, 2016

(Please review this important update as well)

The upcoming election is a Primary, which means you do not actually vote for who will take office in January of 2017, but who from each party will run against the other party in November for those seats.  This means you may only vote on a Democrat Ballot or a Republican (or Issues Only, Green or nonpartisan).  If you are voting by absentee ballot, you will have to choose which one to vote when you request your absentee ballot. When you choose, you will be registered as a member of that party until the next primary election when you can again change your mind.  Whichever party you vote for now does not mean you are in any way committed to voting for that party come November. At that time, you can support whichever candidate you wish.

Pharaoh: King of Ancient Egypt at the Cleveland Museum of Art

Pharaoh: King of Ancient Egypt brings 3,000 years of ancient history to life through some of the finest objects from the vast Egyptian holdings of the British Museum, from monumental sculpture to exquisite jewelry, supplemented by masterworks from the Cleveland collection. While many objects here were created to project a regal image of pharaoh, the story that emerges through this exhibition is also one of a country divided by civil war, conquered by foreign powers, or ruled by competing kings. These ancient rulers themselves were not always male, or even Egyptian, but they shared in the challenges of ruling one of the greatest civilizations the world has seen.

The presentation of Pharaoh: King of Ancient Egypt is a collaboration between the British Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Sun, 03/13/2016 to Sun, 06/12/2016.

Cleveland has made a lot of “best of” lists recently, whether for best food or as a best place to travel.

Courtney Evenchik, school psychologist at Yeshiva Derech HaTorah for the last 11 years, praised Cleveland for something a little more under-the-radar but no less important – the way its Jewish day schools have fought back against abuse.

Update to Susan’s Suggestions for March 15th Primary

Clarification regarding the two sections on the ballot for Presidential candidate:

The ballot gives two opportunities to vote for the Presidential candidate, the first in a section labeled “Delegates-At-Large”, the second in a section “District Delegates”. The basis for these two separate sections is based on prior methods of awarding delegates to the candidates, which require the ballot to have both options. But for the current and future elections, it is only the first question that actually matters. The candidate who receives the most votes in the first section will receive all Ohio delegates (“winner-takes-all”). So while both sections will be counted, only one will “count.”
