Q: Does flavored beer need a hechsher?

A: Yes, flavored beer requires a hechsher.

Q: I recently acquired a basting brush whose bristles are made with pig hair. Are there any kashrus concerns?

A: No, there are no restrictions on using pig hair, and the basting brush may be used.

Holding the Torah Upright

August 19, 2013 Leave a Comment

By Rabbi Yirmiyohu Kaganoff – RabbiKaganoff.com

Question #1:

“I was recently in a shul where they took out the sefer Torah, opened it and carried it all around the shul, showing everyone with a yad where the beginning of the keri’ah is. I had never seen this before, and was wondering if this is a common practice. Is it mentioned in halachic sources, or does it simply manifest someone’s enthusiasm?”

Question #2:

Is there any halachic basis for the custom on Simchas Torah of reversing the sefer Torah so that the writing faces away from the magbiah?

kraus(Cleveland Jewish News)

At age 92, Cantor Moshe Kraus still travels widely to speak about his experiences during the Holocaust.

“When people ask me, I can’t say no,” he said in a telephone interview from his home in Ottawa, Ontario. “Thank G-d I’m still alive, so I tell them the story. I will tell it as long as I can speak and I have the opportunity to travel.”

Kraus, a world-renowned cantor and a survivor of the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany, will be a special guest of Oheb Zedek-Cedar Sinai Synagogue in Lyndhurst when it honors its members who are Holocaust survivors at a series of events Saturday, Aug. 24, and Sunday, Aug. 25.

Coming to Cleveland … Gali’s Couture Wigs

August 19, 2013 Leave a Comment

GalisWigs

With gratitude to Hashem, we debut our highly-anticipated line of Gali’s Couture Wigs. Inspired by and named after our daughter Gali.

Our Story: On July 26th, 2010, our daughter Gali (short for Avigail) fell in the pool in Miami and drowned. While her 20-year Hatzalah veteran daddy performed CPR on her, her mommy vowed to Hashem to take upon herself a very holy, big and powerful mitzvah…. The mitzvah of Hair Covering. At the very moment that the promise came from her lips, the Master of the Universe mercifully granted them their daughter’s life back.
