The Severance Circle Walmart Store will be closing October 15th at 5pm and the new Oakwood Commons Super Walmart is set to open the next morning, October 16th at 9am. Already the old Walmart is very low on stock and whole sections are already empty.

In case you are really excited and think the new one will be “Super,” the same old management and staff from the Severance location will be moving over so expect stocking, hygiene, and other woes to return. So enjoy shopping there if you have to :> Why the sad take on a new investment in the Heights area? Consider your own Walmart mal-experiences for starters or if you want something more “official,” Start here >>

High Quality Torahs For Sale

October 11, 2013 Leave a Comment

According to the Shulchan Aruch every man has an obligation to write a Sefer Torah in his lifetime. Up until now this goal was unattainable to most due to cost and distance. But now the world is smaller, Sofer services can be found for more reasonable prices, and you have an agent on the ground in Israel to help make it happen at no extra charge to you. “Phil Fink’s Shalom America” will be streamed online beginning Sunday

October 10, 2013 Leave a Comment

FinkShalomAmericaIn response to numerous requests from listeners, would‐be listeners, and former listeners, “Phil Fink’s Shalom America” will be streamed online beginning Sunday October 13 from 7‐9 am via Olam Broadcasting’s Radio‐J (http://Radio‐J.com). Licensing requirements had previously prevented the program aired weekly on WELW 1330 am from being streamed on that station’s website, but program host Phi Fink had been searching for a solution that would increase the program’s reach beyond WELW’s limited coverage area throughout northeast Ohio, and offer it to the many former‐ Clevelanders now living in Israel who have requested online listening access to the  program over the years.

Watch your kosher birds!

October 9, 2013 2 Comments

(Ed: Source: ThePoultrySite on October 8, 2013. This is quite timely as there have been several stories of late about E. Coli in chickens. Cooking the chicken so that the internal temperature reaches 165° F. will kill the bacteria in the chicken.)

A study at Northern Arizona University (NAU) and four other institutions found antibiotic resistant E. coli in chickens from a range of production methods, but the greatest amount was found in kosher chickens. “Kosher chickens carried the greatest amount of antibiotic-resistant E. coli, while organic chicken showed antibiotic-resistant bacteria levels just as high as conventional chicken. Only chickens ‘raised without antibiotics’ (RWA) came in with reduced but still contaminated, levels of the E. coli ‘superbug”. “The chicken researchers are from the Horace Mann Bronx Campus, Translational Genomics Research Institute of Flagstaff, NAU and George Washington University in Washington DC. Dr Bruce Hungate, director of the Ecosystem Science and Society Center, and NAU professor of biology, headed the team. The research was funded by the Merriam-Powell Center for Environmental Research and the Ecosystem Science and Society Center, both at NAU.”
The researchers purchased 213 samples of raw chicken from 15 locations in the New York City metropolitan area from April to June, 2012. “The study found that strains of E. coli isolated from samples in the RWA category tended to be resistant to fewer drugs ‘but the difference was not significant versus conventional and organic, which did not differ from each other’ “.

The Israeli Legal System by Marcia Gelpe.

“This book is about the legal system of the country of Israel. The Israeli legal system would be generally understandable to an American lawyer. This book emphasizes the things that are different. This approach supplies the student with the ability to understand the features of Israeli law that would not otherwise be familiar. It also gives the best grounds for comparative law analysis. Most chapters describe the differences between Israeli and American law and investigate the reasons for and the implications of these differences”–Page xv.
