Please Help a Cancer Patient Save His Bakery

February 25, 2015 2 Comments

barak(A great opportunity to help a special community member during a time of great need)

Three years ago, I was diagnosed with adrenal cancer. It’s usually (as in my case) caught very, or too, late. Though the original tumor, which weighed over a kilo, was removed, he cancer has returned time and again after multiple surgeries, chemo, and radiation. I am now looking at enrolling in a clinical trial, which is essentially the desperation stage. This is one of the rarest and deadliest forms of cancer and my prognosis is that I have a 25% chance of living five years as of diagnosis. I am now three years out from original diagnosis. My bakery, Lax and Mandel Bakery, has taken a downturn because I’ve been unable to work.

Tip About Bus Service Updates for School Cancellation Days

February 24, 2015 1 Comment

(Reader Submission)

Many people were unaware this Tuesday morning that CH-UH schools had cancelled and therefore there was no bus service.

If you live in CHUH, either go to WKYC Text Alerts to sign up for text alerts when schools relevant to you are closed (yes, this is free) or contact CHUH schools to get on their phone reminder list that sends out information for things like school closings (and a few other things you won’t care about but can safely ignore…)

Thursday night is another cold night, so even though it’s late in the season, sign up now to be notified.  These lists persist from year to year so you will not have to sign up next year.

In My Humble Opinion – Mrs. Sara Brejt – Advice for Handling Purim Stress

February 24, 2015 Leave a Comment

envelope(Repost from last Purim)

Dear Mrs. Brejt –  I find Purim a very challenging day. Despite doing as much as possible in advance (mishloach manos and most of the cooking for the seudah), every year I end up exhausted and stressed on Purim. Instead of davening like I would like to, I end up feeling so stressed and even resentful. I would love any advice you could give me on how to have a better experience!
