Confused about the Beachwood term limits charter amendment? What to know before you vote

Voters will decide whether to limit the mayor and City Council members to three terms during a Feb. 3 special election.
Here’s what you should know before you cast your ballot.
What is the charter amendment?
The city charter states the mayor and City Council members “shall serve until their successors are elected.” If a majority of voters approve, a clause will be added to limit them to three consecutive terms in office.

Beachwood schools may put a bond issue and property tax increase on the ballot in the next year or two.
Beachwood school board President Mitchel Luxenburg said the district will “likely” ask for more taxes for operations in the next 12 to 24 months, in a mass email sent to residents Wednesday.

Cleveland Jewish Orthodox Cub Scouts Outing Next Sunday
Our first event is planned for Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 3:15PM at the Shaker Lakes Nature Center. Our Scouts will be taking a 30-minute hike while learning Wilderness Survival Skills, including how to find water and make it potable, how to prep a fire area, how to build shelter, and other skills. A short Pack meeting will follow the hike. The cost for the program is $5 per person. Siblings are welcome, space permitting. Parents of Scouts in 1st –3rd grade, are required to chaperone their children on the hike. Boots and gloves/mittens are required; snow pants and drinking water are highly recommended. No need to be registered to participate in this outing. Information, registration forms will be available to formally join our local Cub Scout troop. East Cleveland’s shaky future

East Cleveland may be on its last legs financially. In November, Ohio Auditor Dave Yost said the community was “on the verge of collapse”and “insolvent” and had only made 2014 payroll through “sheer luck.” Yost then termed that luck “unlikely to continue.” Among the reasons: East Cleveland could no longer repair its streets because key equipment had broken down; two neighboring cities had canceled mutual fire aid agreements because East Cleveland no longer had a working ladder truck; and all city cellphones had been shut off for nonpayment.

We note that with respect to fresh figs, we have been advised that they are a top concern, as they can be infested with tolaim. We also add that we have been advised that there is no issues of tolaim with respect to pomegranates. As always, one should consult with his own Rav or Posek for a final p’sak in all matters.
