Saying Modeh Ani Twice A Day or More

January 18, 2016 1 Comment

(Hakhel) In the pamphlet VeNomar Amein, the story is brought about a religious Jew who was placed into one of Stalin’s, yemach shemo, Siberian labor camps.  One morning, as he awoke, he contemplated for a moment what he was going to say Modeh Ani about.  After all, he thought, what type of life was he leading–far off in a distant, forsaken corner of the world, a captive in the ice cold weather of Siberia?  Not only had he been separated from his family, but he was being forced not to observe Shabbos, not to put on Tefillin, and not to keep Kosher.

MetroHealth freestanding emergency facilities ready to open (Ed: one right near the community in Cleveland Heights)

January 14, 2016 Leave a Comment

healthspan(Cleveland.com)

MetroHealth is poised to open two community, 24-hour emergency centers by the end of next month.

MetroHealth, which runs the only Level 1 trauma center at its main campus on Cleveland’s west side, announced last fall it would lease space in medical centers run by HealthSpan to expand its emergency care.

HealthSpan physicians will continue to provide primary care services and other specialties at the facilities.

The Cleveland Heights center, in Severance Center, will begin accepting patients on Feb. 15, while the Parma facility — located at 12301 Snow Road — will open on Feb. 29.

Project Witness- Once Upon A Family – Free Admission

Cleveland_8.5x11

RSVPs requested here >>

(Excerpt from the Jewish Standard Times of Israel)

“This is not a dry historical narration; it is an experience that will take you back in time,” Project Witness’s director, Ruth Lichtenstein, said. “It’s about living daily life through the eyes of a Jewish family in Poland — the joy, the holidays, the education, the experiences of rich urban Jewish life — and then the sheer horror.”

Ms. Lichtenstein, the daughter of two Holocaust survivors and publisher of the daily newspaper Hamodia, has made Holocaust remembrance her life’s mission. Project Witness is the nonprofit New York-based Holocaust resource center she founded; it merges research and scholarship with media to provide materials for schools, communities, and lay readers.

Featuring live interviews from survivors conducted in Jewish communities in the United States, Israel, and Poland, “Once Upon a Family” is the latest in a series of documentaries from Project Witness covering little-known or grossly underrepresented facets of the Holocaust.

New Five Minute Daily Shiur

January 14, 2016 Leave a Comment

The sefer Tomer Devorah is an early classic which teaches how to perfect our midos and behavior. The work has long been cherished by people who seek to become better Jews and better people.

There is another reason to study the work. The famed Rav Chaim of Tzanz revealed a century ago that studying this work is a segulah to be protected from cancer.

The Rosh HaYeshiva, Rav Aharon Dovid Goldberg Shlit”a, began delivering a daily five minute shiur on Tomer Devorah as a zechus for Klal Yisroel to be protected from the dreaded disease.

The shiur is available through the Chazak inspiration line by calling
