Presenting Bikur Cholim’s Second Business of the Month: Fitness Zone!
IN THE ZONE
How Fitness Zone is becoming a community hub
Fitness Zone owner Mike Palla is not just a gym owner, but a visionary entrepreneur with an eye toward the future. He has completely changed the face of Fitness Zone by creating a more modern, sleeker aesthetic. Thanks to the remodeled design, the gym is attracting a more sophisticated, savvy and classy clientele, and is generating an upswing in local business.
As the owner of a community business, Mike sees himself as a “community guy”. He welcomes conversation and feedback from the community, and wants to be approached by anyone with questions or comments. “Stop by and talk to me,” he says, “Or just pick up the phone and call. I’m here to listen.”
In an effort to reach out to the community, Mike has already opened a women’s- only exercise room at the remodeled gym. “This is a space where women can enjoy a state-of-the art fitness experience while staying true to their values.” says Mike, “No one respects that more than we do.”
In February, Fitness Zone partnered with Bikur Cholim to host a women’s night out at the gym. At a local event called Break at the Gym, women were treated to healthy fruit smoothies, a live musical performance, and yoga class while enjoying the tastefully appointed gym facility. Women who attended called the evening a “fun night out” and a “real treat.”
Business of the Month
Bikur Cholim is pleased to announce that Fitness Zone has earned the Business of the Month Award. This distinguished title was granted in appreciation of owner Mike Palla’s generous donation of $6,000 to Bikur Cholim of Cleveland. The partnership of Mike Palma and business owners like him enable Bikur Cholim to continue bringing help and hope to families in medical crises.
Thank you, Mike!

Enter for a chance to win $10,000 while supporting Cleveland’s first and largest Jewish day school.
Hebrew Academy of Cleveland was established in 1943 by survivors of the Holocaust and has educated well over 7,000 students throughout our existence. We are currently in our 74th year of existence with an unprecedented enrollment of 1,150 students.
The excellent education provided at the Academy is costly – the average cost per child is $10,000 – and over 75% of our students receive some form of scholarship. However, the longstanding policy of the Hebrew Academy has been to educate all children regardless of background and financial ability.
Please join us in supporting this most worthwhile communal institution with your participation in the Hebrew Academy’s raffle.
Raffle Drawing Date: March 11th at the HAC 75th Anniversary Tribute Dinner.

A Purim Message for the Parents of Teens from Project Extreme
Forwarded from a reader. Project Extreme can be visited at www.projectextreme.org.
Dear Family and Friends of Project Extreme,
Each and every one of our children is a precious gem. The 24 hours of Purim pose a real live danger to Jewish children, everywhere. It is these 24 hours that expose many of our youth to the dangers of drinking, driving drunk or riding with a drunk driver and drug use. Purim parties and celebrations may also put our children into challenging peer pressure situations, for which they are unprepared to combat or resist.
- Know where your child/teen is at all times
- Know who they are hanging out with
- Speak to the Designated Driver and check in periodically to assure they are still sober
- MOST IMPORTANTLY- Inform your child/teen that it is OK for them to text/call at any time of day or night to ask to be picked up. Create a simple code word/letter they can text you letting you know they are in a situation that makes them uncomfortable for any reason, and assure them that they will be picked up and taken home with no lectures or blame. Read more about how this plan helped one family here.
Purim is a time to celebrate, we are working together to make it a safe celebration. If you have any questions about how to talk to your child, please contact me via ay@projectextreme.org or 516-612-3922.
