The Cleveland Chesed Center, established in partnership with the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, is a resource for members of the Cleveland Jewish community who are struggling against the financial burden of household expenses.  We provide generous quantities of food, household products and personal care items on a monthly basis ($400-$500 retail value) to qualified families to help ease that burden.

Yabi Nursery Seeks Teacher for 2 Year Old Classroom

Yabi Nursery and Child Care is looking for a teacher in our two year old classroom to assist another teacher with programming and implementation of the Judaic curriculum. Included in the curriculum responsibilities is davening, parsha, yomim tovim, midos at an age and developmentally appropriate environment.

Position is Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. beginning August 21 for the school year.

With a profound sense of loss we are saddened to inform our faculty, alumni and friends of the passing of veteran Academy Rosh Mesivta, Rabbi Nosson Tzvi Baron zt”l in Yerushalayim this morning. A talmid chacham of note, Rabbi Baron had the unique ability to connect with his talmidim and make a profound impact upon their lives. Rabbi Baron was a beloved Rebbi to scores of alumni who will forever remember him.

The levaya will take place today at 6:30 p.m at Beit HaLevayot Shamgar and the kevura will be on Har HaMenuchot. We have been told that there is a call in number after 11:30 a.m. Cleveland time: 513-386-00000. Access code is 2171. Shiva will be observed at the Baron home at Rechov Menachem Meishiv 3 in Yerushalayim.

Our heartfelt condolences to Rabbi Baron’s sons, Rabbi Moshe Baron and Rabbi Shmuel Baron and their families. May we share only  simchos in the future.

We regret to inform you of the passing of Mr. David Smilovitz, R’ David Chaim ben R’ Benyomin, a”h.

Jack Smilovitz will be returning to Cleveland to sit Shiva for his father Friday until Monday morning at 4340 University Parkway (corner University Parkway and Claver).

Shiva will be:

  • Friday from 12:30 PM until 5:00 PM
  • Motzaei Shabbos from after Shabbos until midnight
  • Sunday morning Shachris will be 8:45 AM Mincha 8:45 PM followed by Maariv
  • Monday morning Shachris 7:30 AM.

Summer Crisis Program to Assist Eligible Ohioans with Cooling

Summer Crisis Program (SCP)

The SCP provides a one-time benefit to eligible Ohioans with cooling assistance between July 1, and August 31, 2017.

Benefit

  • An air conditioner unit (if you did not receive one since 2013 and you do not have central air-conditioning).
  • Up to $300 towards your electric bill for a regulated company. (If you are enrolled in PIPP, or have a PIPP default you are ineligible for the bill credit.)

Eligibility

  • 60 years of age and older
  • Or those with a certified medical condition.

Income Limit

Your household income must be below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

Women’s Only Swim this Sunday at Cumberland Pool

This Sunday, Cumberland Pool in Cleveland Heights is having women’s-only swim from 6:30-8pm. Admission is included for those with a season pass. Prices for others are in the attached image.

The final women’s-only swim night is Sunday, August 20, from 6:30-8pm. There’s also a men’s-only swim night on Sunday, August 6, from 6:30-8pm.
