Ed Kelley announced Monday night he will not seek reelection in November after 20 years on City Council, the last 16 as its president and mayor.
Kelley, 56, said today he “didn’t want to be one of those people” who stays in office too long, and decided this was the right time to step away. He acknowledged that while he has been urged by many to enter next year’s Cuyahoga County executive race, it is not something he is seriously considering at this time.
Hakaras Hatov says
Mr. Kelley has been a true friend to our community, helping us with many issues. I would to thank him for all he has done, and wish him much success in his future endeavors, both public and private, and hope he can continue to provide, albeit in a more limited role, the type of support he has given during his term in office.
Cleveland Heights Citizen says
The entire community owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the Honorable Mayor Ed Kelley. He has been a true public servant and devoted friend. He is a 100% total Gentleman and Mentsch, and all around good person. He has worked hard to improve our city and has done a very good job at it. He always took a practical, yet sensitive approach to running the city and we have all grown from it. He will be sorely missed in office, His shoes will be hard ones to fill. Good luck, Mayor in your retirement. May you be blessed for all that you have done for the city.
Susan Efroymson says
Mayor Kelley has indeed been supportive of the needs of our community and I too would like to express my appreciation. His help and support recently on issues like keeping a salt dome out of neighborhood and making sure that the polling place for the Orthodox Jewish community was indeed not moved into a church come to mind immediately. Indeed, city council’s support lead by Mr. Kelley made sure that our neighborhood did not get a call -center right in its midst right in the residential center where a school was built to be the at the epicenter. Instead, they strongly supported the effort to keep Mosdos Ohr Hatorah as a viable option in the running for it Additionally, erev Pesach each year long since, we havent’ had to take our last chometz down to a dump. We have much to express our thanks for.
