Jewish Community Centers in Ohio Among Those in 2nd Wave of Bomb Threats

ADL urges US Jewish institutions to be alert following bomb threats (JPost.com)

The [ADL] said that while the threats did not appear to be credible, it nonetheless urged communal establishments to take serious measures.

The ADL received reports of bomb threats at community centers in Alabama, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

Training course outlines red-flag signs for Jewish organizations

If a man walks into a building wearing improper attire, such as heavy clothing during the summer, that may indicate he should be watched closely.

That’s an example of what people who took a training course, titled “Site Protection Through Observational Techniques,” were asked to look for Feb. 3 at the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Mandel Building in Beachwood.

Jewish day schools under watchful eyes of off-duty, armed officers

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland, starting this school year, is providing security at all five Jewish day schools in Greater Cleveland.

In an Aug. 22 email to parents of students who attend Hebrew Academy of Cleveland, Rabbi Simcha Dessler, educational director of HAC, wrote that enhanced security at the schools is being implemented “thanks to the generosity of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and some private donors.”

Jewish websites reportedly hacked

computer_keyb freeimage com(Cleveland Jewish News)Ed: B”H LocalJewishNews has not been down due to such attacks, but it is important to note that given the high incidence of attempts, LJN and I am sure most other Jewish website are forced to spend much time and money for enhanced security. Large amounts of time are spent closing back doors, securing login methods, and making sure that software is up-to-date because if there is an attack very likely it will include Jewish websites. Such is our world today.

Secure Community Network has received multiple reports from Jewish organizations indicating that their websites were hacked and defaced, according to an intelligence report sent by SCN to Jewish agencies and security directors Feb. 25.

The report also indicated that SCN has been made aware of a series of alleged credit card scams reportedly targeting at least two Jewish federations.

City Council voted June 3 to allow Mayor Susan Infeld to sign a contract with Energency Communications Network of Florida for its CodeRED system. The new system will allow local officials to send emergency messages via voice mail, email, text or social media.
