Volunteers Needed for Spring Cemetery Cleanup

 Please join us at the Annual Spring Cemetery Cleanup, a meaningful volunteering event for all ages. Bring your weed whackers, shovels, clippers, hedgers, gloves, wheelbarrows, and other gardening tools. Together, we’ll rake, prune, and spruce up the cemetery grounds.

May 15, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.

Lansing Cemetery, 3933 E. 57th Street, Cleveland

The event will take place on Sunday, August 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Chesed Shel Emeth (Ridge Road #1), 3740 Ridge Road, Cleveland. Federation digs deep with major commitment to preserve cemeteries

Overgrown trees and grass. Broken or missing fences. Overturned or damaged headstones.

That’s what people have been seeing when they visit many of the older Jewish cemeteries in Greater Cleveland, which have fallen into disrepair. Overall, there are about 69,000 graves in 16 Jewish cemeteries and three general cemeteries with Jewish sections in the Cleveland area.

In remembrance of those who came before us, the Jewish Federation of Cleveland and the Commission on Cemetery Preservation are sponsoring the Annual Cemetery Clean Up. This year’s event is scheduled for Sunday August 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Lansing Cemetery, 3933 E. 57th Street, Cleveland OH.

Volunteers are needed to weed, rake, prune and beautify the grounds of the historic 123-year-old cemetery. This family-friendly activity is open to all ages and will take place rain or shine. Participants are asked to bring weed trimmers, shovels, clippers, hedgers, gloves, wheelbarrows and other gardening tools.
