The Cohen family, of Houston, TX, is facing a battle none of us should have to go through – aggressive brain cancer in their 6-year old son Refael Elisha. Having recently received the devastating news from their doctors that “there is nothing more we can do for him”, the Cohens are turning to a last resort – Antineoplaston Therapy at the Burzyinski clinic. However, the FDA pulled their approval for this treatment in 2012 pending further clinical trials. We are told that the FDA is nearing approval to resume this treatment, but Refael Elisha does not have time to wait.
The FDA has the power to approve a “compassionate use exemption” so Refael Elisha can undergo this therapy to try and save his life.

Vesein Tal Umatar Starts Maariv December 4th
(Mishna Berura Yomi – Chicago Center for Chesed)At Maariv Wednesday night, December 4th, in chutz la’aretz, we begin to say Vesein Tal Umatar during Shemonah Esrei in the bracha of Boreich Aleinu.
If one became aware after completing the bracha of Mevareich Hashanim that one omitted Vesein Tal Umatar, one should wait to insert it right before “Ki atah shomeiah” in Shema Koleinu. If one has already completed the bracha of Shomeiah Tefillah, one may insert Vesein Tal Umatar before saying Retzei. If one has already started Retzei, one must return to the bracha of Boreich Aleinu, which is the proper place for Vesein Tal Umatar. If one already completed the Shemonah Esrei and stepped backward, one must repeat the entire Shemonah Esrei (Shulchan Aruch with Mishna Berurah 117:5. See also Bi’ur Halacha).

Chanukah Candelighting at University Hospitals Case 2013
During the eight days of Hanukkah, from Wednesday, Nov. 27th through Thursday, Dec. 5th, there will be a celebratory lighting of the menorah in the Atrium at 5 p.m. A special musical performance featuring Asher Barkin and piano will follow the lighting ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 4th.
Patients, employees and families are invited to partake in the festivities. Electric menorahs are located in the Atrium and Lerner Tower lobby.

An Unbelievable Neighborhood Incident
A reader asked that we publish the following:
“My daughter was walking on Severn Road towards Taylor. She heard a commotion, shouts and hollering -behind her. When she turned around she saw a deer charging straight at her with Jewish young men chasing it from behind with their shouts. She knew not to run, but rather to stand still. B”H the deer veered away from her, and the Jewish youngsters continued chasing it. I don’t know if they saw my daughter, as they were focused on the deer. Dangerous!”
