“The Pop Up Shop” Popping Up in the Area

popupshop(Action 19 News) (Ed: A group of Jewish entrepreneurs have gotten together to create a shopping environment that promotes a different way of shopping, focusing on the experience and the people. It is a nice partnership of Jewish people doing different business projects and promoting Jewish people working together. They’re popping up all over town, literally and that’s the name of one store “The Pop Up Shop.”

“It’s so fun, I just walked in,” says customer Audee Ison.

Several women with different businesses including Sharon Blumenthal decided to rent out the former Max Wellness building on Chagrin Blvd. in Woodmere for about a month, just in time for the holiday season.

CNN has an online poll called CNN Heroes – Everyday people changing the World. One of the finalists is Rabbi Elimelech Goldberg, from Southfield, MI who uses martial arts techniques to help children who are battling serious illnesses manage their pain. It is a big deal that a frum Yid has been so recognized by CNN so if you have a moment please put in your vote. It takes less than 1 min and the only thing to watch for is to not place and “x” on just one box to avoid an email subscription from CNN. It is not a gimmick and requires very few clicks.

 

 

New Hillel student center heralded as ‘beacon for community’

Case Western Reserve University’s new Albert and Norma Geller Hillel Student Center, which is set to replace Cleveland Hillel’s current home that dates back to 1972, will serve more than just the Case community; it will benefit the entire Greater Cleveland area as a whole. This sentiment was echoed throughout the night of Nov. 6, when a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the Cleveland Hillel Foundation.

Jewish school enrollment up 12 percent, fueled by haredi Orthodox growth

Jewish day school enrollment in the United States is up 12 percent from five years ago, primarily due to growth in haredi Orthodox schools.

Nearly 255,000 students are enrolled in 861 Jewish day schools from the pre-K level through 12th grade, according to a new census of the schools conducted by the Avi Chai Foundation.

The day school survey, which has been conducted every five years since 1998-99, found 59 more schools and 26,437 more students since the last study, in 2008-09. Previous surveys found enrollment growth rates of about 11 percent in each five-year period.
