(Jewish Federation of Cleveland) Creative writers, artists, and filmmakers from Cleveland area middle and high schools are invited to enter the 2015 annual Yom Hashoah V’Hagvurah (Cleveland’s commemoration of the Holocaust and heroism) Creative Arts Contest. Essays, works of art, and films are sought that portray this year’s theme, “70th Anniversary of the Liberation: Keeping the Memory Alive.”
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to consider the lessons of the Holocaust from a unique perspective and to creatively interpret that point of view through writing, art and film,” said Richard Rakos, Creative Arts Committee Co-Chair.

This past spring, David Markovich, 22, of Beachwood, was a John Carroll University student studying gerontology and looking forward to his graduation in May. But on April 20, a week prior to finals, he woke up early in the morning to sharp, shooting pains down his back and in both legs, and a fever of 103 degrees.
He called 911, and an ambulance transported him to the Cleveland Clinic. Soon after his arrival, he noticed tingling in his legs. He thought it was just the position in which he was lying on the emergency room bed. But within the hour, his legs had no feeling.

Car-sharing for the car-less and eco-conscious has arrived in University Circle.
Zipcar, which rents vehicles by the hour or day, on Wednesday rolled out four rental cars stationed at two sites –- the parking garage on the west side of Mayfield Road, just north of Euclid Avenue, and University Circle Inc.’s headquarters at 10831 Magnolia Drive.
Customers can rent a Ford Escape, Ford Focus or Hyundai Elantra for $7.50 an hour or $69 for 24 hours.
The Jewish Learning Connection will be hosting a class for women on the modern classic ‘Garden of Emunah,’ with Mrs. Elena Berkovich. Mrs. Berkovich is giving the class in memory of her daughter Basya Rivka, a”h, who passed away earlier this year after a brief illness. The class will be held Sunday mornings at 10:30 at JLC’s Waxman Torah Center 2195 South Green Road.
