On Thursday night, several dozen young professionals gathered for an exciting kick-off event of the young leadership committee of Agudath Israel in Cleveland. The event, hosted by Amir and Edna Jaffa, featured Speaker of the Ohio House of Representatives Bill Batchelder and Speaker Pro Tempore Matt Huffman. Both elected officials delivered powerful messages about the importance of being engaged in the political process and taking on positions of leadership in one’s own community and beyond. They stressed how each person can make a difference in the school choice effort by publicizing positive effects these policies have had on the local community. The function was an opportunity for participants to personally thank the elected officials for their roles in expanding Ohio’s voucher programs that help many students in Cleveland attend Jewish day schools.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students to consider the lessons of the Holocaust from a unique perspective, and to creatively interpret that point of view through writing and art,” said Richard Rakos, Creative Arts Committee Co-Chair.
(Worth the time investment or perhaps this speaker can be invited to speak to our community schools?)

Amazon has got the Rite-Lite Judaica Deluxe Silvertone Plastic Electric Menorah for the lowest price around just $24. Of course it is not kosher to use an electric menorah to fulfill the mitzvah but this might serve as a beautiful window display or something for the younger kids (bulbs are hot though). Or it may be a way to bring Hannukah to people in the hospital or in places where it is difficult to light a fire. These usually sell for over $35 in the stores. And it is more than 15″ tall!
Daylight savings time ends this Sunday morning, November 3rd at 2am giving us an extra hour to do something that we often don’t have a chance to do! But it also means that we have to once again revisit how we are able to find a minyan and daven on time. LocalJewishNews maintains a list of
