Beachwood schools may put a bond issue and property tax increase on the ballot in the next year or two.
Beachwood school board President Mitchel Luxenburg said the district will “likely” ask for more taxes for operations in the next 12 to 24 months, in a mass email sent to residents Wednesday.

Our first event is planned for Sunday, February 8, 2015 at 3:15PM at the Shaker Lakes Nature Center. Our Scouts will be taking a 30-minute hike while learning Wilderness Survival Skills, including how to find water and make it potable, how to prep a fire area, how to build shelter, and other skills. A short Pack meeting will follow the hike. The cost for the program is $5 per person. Siblings are welcome, space permitting. Parents of Scouts in 1st –3rd grade, are required to chaperone their children on the hike. Boots and gloves/mittens are required; snow pants and drinking water are highly recommended. No need to be registered to participate in this outing. Information, registration forms will be available to formally join our local Cub Scout troop. East Cleveland may be on its last legs financially. In November, Ohio Auditor Dave Yost said the community was “on the verge of collapse”and “insolvent” and had only made 2014 payroll through “sheer luck.” Yost then termed that luck “unlikely to continue.” Among the reasons: East Cleveland could no longer repair its streets because key equipment had broken down; two neighboring cities had canceled mutual fire aid agreements because East Cleveland no longer had a working ladder truck; and all city cellphones had been shut off for nonpayment.
There has been a big trend lately to move from home phone service with AT&T or Time Warner and instead to utilize an internet based service through a 3rd party provider. This can mean a change from over $45 per month to as little as $3.

With Tu B’Shevat less than a week away, we move into thoughts of preparation for a Rosh Hashana not known to the world at large. We provide below a guide sourced from reliable hashgacha agencies. We note that with respect to fresh figs, we have been advised that they are a top concern, as they can be infested with tolaim. We also add that we have been advised that there is no issues of tolaim with respect to pomegranates. As always, one should consult with his own Rav or Posek for a final p’sak in all matters.

The Public Education Initiative (PEI) Fellow is responsible for assisting the PEI Site Coordinator in the oversight of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland’s Public Education Initiative. The Public Education Initiative is a one-on-one literacy enrichment program through which volunteer tutors meet with students at eight sites within the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (for more information click here).
Federation has an opening for a part-time administrative assistant providing support in dual areas of the External Affairs Department: 1) Overseas Missions programs responsible for planning incoming and outgoing missions and family travel; and 2) Community-wide security.

The city wants to make more zero-interest loans available, and allow more businesses to receive grants to help spruce up their s
paces.
Through the city’s current storefront renovation program, owners can apply for a zero-interest loan to cover half the cost to improve their businesses, up to $25,000; and businesses in certain commercial areas may receive a rebate to cover up to 50 percent, as much as $25,000. There’s also a $2,000 rebate for signage on significant projects.

Home-furnishings giant Ikea announced Tuesday that it is planning a second Ohio store — in Columbus, not Greater Cleveland.
But that news shouldn’t discourage the retailer’s fans in Northeast Ohio, where the Swedish company has been scouring for sites and has land under contract in Brooklyn.
