Susan’s Suggestions for the Elections – VOTE TODAY Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Tuesday, November 3rd is election day!! Polls open: 6:30 AM – 7:30 PM. Visit here to find your voting place, check your registration, ballot info, etc. 

As always, these elections are important.  These are local and as such means that there is the smallest pool of people voting for each office that is up for election.  That means your vote means even more this time.   Issues like tax hikes, renewals and redistricting are all significant and this is your opportunity to show that you care about them and show the politicians that you count.   When officials see we vote, they know they have to continue to earn it.  As always, these are suggestions based on my research. I encourage everyone to know the issues and the candidates and make informed decisions.  Please consider voting for the following and see the expanded explanations at the bottom.

City of Cleveland Heights Council At Large:  vote for up to three out of six:  Keba Sylla, Khalil Seren, and Tas Nadas

City of University Heights Council: (vote 4 of 3)  There are 3 candidates running for 4 open seats and showing them our support makes good sense for our community  and is certainly  an easy choice in a race as uncontentious as this one with good candidates.

Take note of a recently added YIGC Beachwood Stone Beit Midrash 1pm mincha, an updated 2:15 Solon/ Mazel Company Mincha, and some other changes. Also, Telshe Yeshiva offers various Mincha minyanim –  ‎1:15 Yeshiva back Shiur room, 2:00 &  2:45 back shiur room, and 3:15 Beis Midrash.

Cleveland Bochur Injured in Knife Attack in Yerushalayim Now Doing Well

In the recent wave of attacks on Israeli citizens by knife wielding Palestinians, there have been news stories about a bochur from Cleveland who was stabbed around 1:15pm October 30th. He was  moderately wounded  in an attack near Ammunition Hill in Yerushalayim. The terrorist was shot and neutralized. A second person was wounded by gunfire when police and security guards shot at the attacker, Ynet reports.

The student is Shalom Domb from Cleveland Heights.  His family reports that he is out of the hospital and doing well.  His injury was reduced due to the fact that he saw the attacker preparing his knife and was able to anticipate and flee earlier. Hodu L’Hashem Ki Tov, Ki l’Olom Chasdo.

The Daily Hodu Prayer

 Question #1: “Why does Nusach Ashkenaz recite Baruch She’amar before Hodu, whereas Nusach Sfard recites Hodu first?”

 Question #2: “I noticed that there are sections of Tehillim that are very similar to Hodu. Why are there noticeable differences between these parts of Tehillim andHodu?”

 Question #3: “The Hodu that is in the book of Tehillim is divided between two chapters, Chapters 105 and 96. Why do we combine them when we daven?”
