Nationwide Housing Prices at or Near Pre-2006 Peaks; Cleveland Still Lagging
Most of the article focuses on national trends but there is this about the Cleveland area:
In the Cleveland-Elyria-Mentor area, house prices are near their spring 2003 levels, according to Case-Shiller data. The Cleveland index still is down almost 8.9 percent from its pre-recession peak…

Reminder From HAC & CHPD About New Traffic Restrictions During Carpool Time
Editor’s note: If the list of restrictions below is confusing on paper, just pay attention to the posted signs.
Earlier this year, we informed our parent body of new traffic regulations and signs at our Taylor Road campus. These new procedures were mandated by the CHPD, in consultation with the Academy, and have helped to ease traffic which gets congested at school dismissal time. The following traffic laws are in effect and we urge you to pay attention to the new signs alerting you of the procedures. Also, please be aware that the police department has informed us that violators will be ticketed – especially for blocking the driveways of the gas station on Berkeley Road.
- No left turn from South Taylor onto Bainbridge, (Southbound) Monday through Friday, 1:30-4:30.
- No left turn from South Taylor onto Berkley, Monday through Friday, 1:30-4:30 (except buses).
- No left turn from Berkley onto South Taylor, Monday through Friday, 1:30-4:30 (except buses).
- No left turn from Blanche onto South Taylor, Monday through Friday, 1:30-4:30.
- No blocking driveways of gas station during carpool lineup.
Thank you for your vigilance and cooperation!

PSA: Reflect on the Consequences of Walking at Night – Make Yourself Visible!

Repost from previous years:
Just recently a young man was hit by a car crossing a street at night in Beachwood. Despite the fact that he crossed in a crosswalk, it was just too hard to see someone dressed in black at night. At the encouragement of his family, our community is being asked to be more vigilant about wearing reflectors. Sponsored belts can be purchased for $3 at the local seforim stores. Marc’s and discount stores frequently sell very inexpensive reflective vests. Flashing lights and flashlights are only a few dollars. Just recently Lakewood launched a “Shabbos of Reflection” after 101 pedestrians were struck, 5 fatally in 2012. Maybe it is time for a little more “reflection” in Cleveland too? Well, Chaverim has plans underway for a whole campaign soon! Click here to view a pamphlet which outlines the halachos of wearing a reflector in a place where there is no eruv (say you are traveling outside of the Cleveland eruv on Shabbos or do not carry).

Passing of Former University Heights Mayor Beryl Rothschild
From a public email announcement from current Mayor Susan Infeld:
I am sorry to share the news of the recent passing of former Mayor Beryl Rothschild. Mayor Rothschild was one of the first women mayors elected in the State of Ohio and was also one of the longest-serving mayors in the State. She served on numerous boards and commissions regionally and state-wide and was very well-respected among her peers. Her civic legacy was far-reaching and prolific. Her interest and care for University Heights was evident in her work as a 42-year elected official (first as a Councilwoman for 10 years and then as the Mayor for 32 years). We have all benefited from her wisdom and years of service.
Mayor Rothschild had not been in good health of late and was recently in hospice. She passed away last Friday and her funeral service will be tomorrow, November 29th at 10 a.m. at the Berkowitz-Kumin funeral home on Taylor Road in Cleveland Heights. The funeral home will live stream the funeral service at http://bitly.com/largechapel for those who may want to watch from home. Following the funeral the mourners will process through University Heights as they travel to the cemetery. The procession will follow this route from the funeral home to the cemetery: turning left onto Taylor Road; turning left onto Washington Blvd and passing Mayor Rothschild’s former home, City Hall, and John Carroll University; turning left onto Belvoir Blvd; turning left onto Cedar Road and passing Purvis Park; turning right onto Warrensville Center Road; turning left onto Mayfield Road where the procession will end at the Mayfield Cemetery.
Condolences can be sent to Mayor Rothschild’s family at the following address: Brian and Margaret Slesnik, 4463 High Ridge Trail, Akron, OH 44333. Additional information is available at www.cleveland.com/obits.
Sincerely,
Susan Infeld
Mayor
