Construction starts on Fenwick Road park in University Heights

Construction has started on a 6.5-acre park off Fenwick Road, the city’s first significant recreational project in 20 years.
“It’s going to introduce an asset to the city that we don’t currently have,” Mayor Susan Infeld said. “It’s the type of amenity most people would expect to find in a community of homes, such as ours.”
In August, City Council hired Cavanaugh Building Corp. of Copley Township to build the park. To pay for it, voters approved a $1.8 million bond issue in November 2014. Property owners will repay the debt over 15 years, at a cost of about $25 a year on each $100,000 of home value.

Recently, someone asked me a shaylah that involves what is probably one of the most heart-breaking issues I was ever asked. The question was: “Are there any halachic issues involved in sifting through the earth removed by the Waqf from the Makom HaMikdash?”
To explain this shaylah, I will first explain what has happened, then discuss the halachic issues involved — and finally explain the answers. There is also a fascinating halachic-architectural issue that I noticed while studying photographs of the Moslem construction, which I will discuss at the end of this article.

Camp Pardes Update!
There are still a few spots left for boys entering 2-6 for weeks 5-8 (July 25-August 19) and we are now opening registration for boys entering 7th grade August 1-19. In case you haven’t heard Camp Pardes is having a great summer thanks to our awesome staff and the best facilities in town including 3 baseball fields – yes, we play a few games of softball every week – 2 basketball courts, new game room and Notre Dame swimming. Trips coming up will include Zip City, Wild Water Kingdom, and (for 5th-7th graders) an overnight!

The funeral will take place Monday, July 25th, 11:30am graveside at Zion Memorial Cemetery, 5461 Northfield Rd, Bedford Heights, OH. Shiva will take place at the home, 4197 Okalona Rd, South Euclid, OH. There will be no minyanim except for Mincha/ Maariv at 8:30pm on Monday night. No visitation after 9pm please. Maya Kleyman was a woman who came from the Ukraine to Cleveland and was always attending shiurim and looking for opportunities to do mitzvos and share her kindness. A true seeker of Torah and a very dedicated Jewish mother. She davened at Heights Jewish Center.
May the family be comforted among the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Inspired by Wolf’s invocation

The invocation that Rabbi Ari Wolf gave at the Republican National Convention July 18 was inspiring to all who seek peace on earth.
Back in the ‘80s and ‘90s, I was in charge of the Cleveland Police Stress Unit (employee assistance unit). Ari volunteered as a chaplain. He and his brother, Rabbi Sruly Wolf, were an important component of the unit.
He created a much-needed dynamic cultural advantage. Wow, a mostly Catholic, Protestant, Irish police force and rabbis. These two forces from God made it work.
They cared. I mean cared about everybody. I guess that’s what God wanted. Both of these rabbis have made life a little better, for Cleveland, police officers and officers’ families. Now, again, Rabbi Ari Wolf has taken his message of love to millions. Not bad, not bad at all.
