The Shulchan Aruch (Orach Chaim 219) lists the situations over which one recites the special bracha of HaGomel LeChayavim Tovos Shegimalani Kol Tov. The Shulchan Aruch (ibid. 9) then brings a difference of opinion as to other circumstances in which the bracha of HaGomel should be recited. There is a related issue in today’s times as to whether one recites this bracha after having taken a flight internationally, even domestically, or perhaps not to recite the bracha in either circumstance.

Question #1:
One of the shul‘s baalei batim calls the rav with the following concern:
“The shul‘s sheimos collection is a fire hazard – a catastrophe waiting to happen. Can we just burn everything before a dangerous fire breaks out?”

Beachwood Councilmen Fred Goodman, Mark Mintz and Mark Wachter believe the city is in a good place as they prepare to end their long tenures on city council.
All three were recognized at their final council meeting Dec. 21. Goodman and Mintz chose not to seek re-election in November, when Wachter was defeated in his bid for a fifth four-year term. The terms of all three expire Dec. 31.

Mosdos Ohr HaTorah, the Orthodox Jewish day school in Cleveland Heights that went into receivership this past summer, has been renamed Yeshiva Derech HaTorah, the Cleveland-based charity that has acquired it.
Irv Berliner, an attorney for Yeshiva Derech HaTorah and a member of its board of directors, said the acquisition of the school’s assets was completed Dec. 16. The terms of the sale were approved Nov. 5 at a hearing in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court, and the sale closed and the period to appeal the decision ended Dec. 16, Berliner said.
