Special Pre-Pesach Garbage Pickups for Cleveland Heights, University Heights, and Beachwood

University Heights – citywide trash pickup on Thursday.  People are asked to have all of their trashout before noon. Thank you to the city of University Heights and Service Director Jeff Pokorny for arranging this valuable service for our community!

Cleveland Heights  – Special pre-Pesach garbage collection will be Friday April 3, 2015. Please take the time to express your Hakoras Ha’Tov to:

City Manager – Tanisha Briley – citymanager@clvhts.com and our community members Chaya Wolf and Cleveland Heights City Councilman Jason Stein for arranging this.

Beachwood – not able to get confirmation, but in past years they have offered special city-wide pick-ups for the 2 days before Pesach. Can anyone confirm this?

We regret to inform you of the passing of Shia Mendal ben Yaakov, Seymour Reichbart, father of Isa Lefkowitz. The levaya took place Monday in San Diego, CA.

Mrs. Lefkowitz will be sitting Shiva in her home beginning on Tuesday. Updated Shiva Times below:

University Heights police seek help identifying men who tried to set fire at apartment (2200 Kerwin Road)

Police are looking for two men who tried to set fire to a University Heights apartment building.

The men spilled oil on the sidewalk and an outside wall of the building on the 2200 block of Kerwin Road. They also discharged a fire extinguisher and damaged a surveillance camera in the indoor parking garage.

Hebrew Academy to purchase CH portion of Oakwood Club

Hebrew Academy of Cleveland (HAC) will purchase the 92-acre Cleveland Heights portion of the former Oakwood Country Club from First Interstate Properties of Lyndhurst. In September 2014, HAC signed a letter of intent to purchase the property, and academy officials say they expect to finalize the acquisition within the next couple of weeks.

Purchasing Chometz in Cleveland After Pesach

Make sure to check the Cleveland Kosher bulletin for information on where to buy chometz after Pesach. Be sure to note that Target is not recommended for purchasing chometz again this year. This is due to the fact that Target utilizes C & S Wholesale Grocers (Cohen and Siegel) to provide many of their grocery section items.  It is not clear which of their food products (e.g. cereal) are sourced directly from Target or from C & S. Also, Heinen’s and other stores which have special kosher sections – ask your Rabbi for details about sales of chometz in stores which sell their chometz, yet continue to do business with these items on store shelves.
