Help Wanted: Jewish Federation Writer- Editor for Marketing Communications

The Jewish Federation of Cleveland is now recruiting for the position of Writer/Editor for our Marketing and Communications Department.  This is a full-time position.  The posting can be found on their website here and on LinkedIn here.

Our Writer/Editor is a highly energetic, creative, and sophisticated writer or journalist with experience crafting dynamic stories that engage a public audience – skilled at writing across platforms for both print and web. Our style is compelling and dynamic, so it is critical that the writer/editor can write about complex issues in a conversational, easy to understand, knowledgeable way.

Essential Functions of the Writer/Editor:

 Write content on topics that can range from fundraising appeals to special

event coverage to updates on crisis or current events.

 Write for a variety of mediums that can include invitations, ads, articles, and

more.

 Perform research and interviews to deliver compelling stories and profiles.

 Develop story ideas based on current trends in the marketplace and

understanding our market.

 Work with staff and partners to identify stories and pursue telling them in

compelling, dynamic content creation.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:

 Be an excellent writer – hungry for the story, curious about details, with the

ability to spin and angle so our message is relevant to the wider community.

 Good people skills – outgoing, friendly, genuinely interested in hearing

people’s stories, talking with people to discover their story.

 Understand audience and voice – able to adapt voice and tone for appropriate

audiences while maintaining brand standards and style.

 Love proofreading and editing – skilled at both proofreading and editing

documents.

 A connection to the Jewish Community that helps fuel the work that we

produce.

 A strong belief in doing good work for a good cause.

Education, Training and/or Experience:

 A Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or

other related field is required; a Master’s degree and/or 5-7 years of practical

experience is preferred.
