According to some rishonim, the mitzvah to raise the Torah (hagbahah) is mentioned in parshas Ki Savo.

Question #1: Holy roller

“I was in a shul, and when they took out the sefer Torah, they opened it and carried it all around the shul, showing everyone with a yad where the beginning of the keri’ah is. I had never seen this before, and was wondering if this is a common practice. Is it mentioned in halachic sources, or does it simply manifest someone’s enthusiasm?”

Question #2: Reversing the trend

Is there any halachic basis for the custom on Simchas Torah of reversing the sefer Torah so that the writing faces away from the magbiah?

Turf and Torah (TnT) Jewish Flag Football

Turf and Torah (TnT) is a Jewish Flag Football league in Cleveland.  The goal is to engage Jewish men in the camaraderie of sportsmanship and Torah discussion.   

When:  The league will meet weekly Sunday mornings from 9-11 AM, Starting Sept. 14th, for eight weeks. 

Cost: $60 Dollars this season. That helps to pay for TnT shirts, weekly refs, field costs, flags, etc.  Any additional funds left over will be donated to a Jewish organization.  The league champions will be able to choose that organization .

Rosh Hashana Vasikin Minyan in Cleveland Heights

בעזהש”י There will once again be Vasikin Minyan on ראש השנה this year.  Seats are $25 (there are expenses so please be sure to pay!).  Location: downstairs in the HAC South Taylor Road building. To reserve or for more information please contact Eli Graiser  (216) 973 – 7833.

NOTE: There have been requests in past years for a Minyan for  יום הכיפורים as well.  If there is enough interest, there may be a Minyan so please express your interest as soon as possible.

Chartered Bus for Bochrim from NY/ NJ to Cleveland Motzei Yom Kippur

Once again we are trying to arrange a bus motzei Yom Kippur from NY/NJ for bochurim.  Must commit asap! (If not enough boys commit, there will be no bus) Cost $70. Please text or call Yehudis Newman for more information at 216-470-8772.

Reservations must be made by September 10!  Otherwise the bus reservation will have to be cancelled by midnight of the 10th if we don’t have enough boys.  You can also email ynewman68@gmail.com to make reservations or for further information.

TLC – Recovery Program for Compulsive Eating

TLC (To Live with Choice) is a Torah based program of recovery for women dealing with compulsive eating and food addiction.  Join us to learn the secrets of recovery and gain “chizuk” by learning the 13 Steps taught by Rebbetzin Moskowitz (Rabbi Ezriel Tauber’s daughter).
