Free Shemos Dropoff at Mt. Olive Cemetery Through Sept 11th.

Mount Olive Cemetery will offer Shemos services for the burial of religious books and papers from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday through Friday until Sept. 11.

The items should be dropped off in paper bags or cardboard boxes.

The cemetery is at 27855 Aurora Road in Solon.

Call 440-248-5100 for more information. Totally free.

(LocalJewishNews is NOT planning on arranging a community drop-off in Cleveland Heights on Sunday, Sept. 7th so perhaps another community organization will grab this great mitzvah opportunity.)

Rabbi Yaakov Zev Katz has just a published a 2 volume sefer set in honor of his father, HaRav Chaim Mordechai Katz, z”l for his upcoming 50th yartzeit. It will available for sale in the Cedar- Green Kollel next week. The price is $21.

We regret to inform you of the passing  of Jeffrey Rosenbaum,  son of Maury and Margot Rosenbaum.  The funeral service will be at Berkowitz-Kumin on Tuesday, September 2nd at 2:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery. Shiva details to follow.

Why is the city’s name spelled as it is? Beachwood Historical Society seeks the answer as 100th anniversary nears

The beech tree for which the city is named is spelled with two ‘e’s, while the name of the city contains the letter “a.”

Why? That’s the question two women who serve as the backbone of the Beachwood Historical Society want answered as the community prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2015.

Historical society President Rosemary Nemeth and Archivist Nancy Hart traveled Aug. 8 to Columbus to research the question and, while they found one answer, it wasn’t definitive.
