It is quite frustrating for parents (myself included) when kids do not listen. There are so many things to be done and we need our kids to cooperate. In the mornings, kids need to wake up, get dressed, brush their teeth, eat breakfast, pack up and go. In the evenings, it is dinner, homework, bath and pajama time. There are so many opportunities for them to listen, or not, and when kids don’t want to do what we tell them it can be a real challenge.

Yosef Karduner’s new album, Dibbur Pashut (Simple Speech), is a wonderful collection of songs about yearning for closeness with Hashem, and rejoicing in Hashem. About my favorite song, “Sos Asis,” he writes in the liner notes: “Rav Zilviger told me that every Yid is different and is a unique creation in itself and therefore can make a special Nachat to Hashem. He told me about the commentary of the Maggid of Mezritch Zt”l fo the Passuk “Sos Asis B’Hashem”: Sos – I am happy, Asis – I make Hashem happy. Hashem created me as a unique creation unlike any other in this world and I can make Hashem happy in a way that no other can, and that is the reason for my own happiness.”

A Not Well-known Assistance Program
Unfortunately times are tough for many of our community members. A not well-known program available to those receiving public assistance is the PRC which can assist with paying unanticipated short-term shelter, vehicle, and job training expenses. The Prevention, Retention and Contingency (PRC) program was established to help families overcome immediate
barriers to self-sufficiency. It is funded through the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program for low-income families. Families receiving assistance from other public assistance programs − including Ohio Works First, Disability Financial Assistance and food assistance (formerly known as food stamps) − may also apply for PRC services and benefits at their county departments of job and family services.
