Rabbi Kutner and I partnered on a very big mitzva a few years ago. My aunt Ruth Eisner lived in a couple of the local nursing homes and had always enjoyed a warm relationship with the rabbi. When she later became ill and was a few short days from her passing her two grown (non observant)sons- my cousins- came in from New York to be with her. They Informed me that they had decided to have her cremated. I argued strenuously with them To change their minds but to no avail . In desperation I phoned Rabbi Kutner and said to him “ wherever you are and whatever you’re doing you must get over here to Hillcrest right away- it’s an emergency. Sure enough he soon arrived. He sat down with my cousins and discussed the entire matter with them. His words impacted them and they decided to have their mother, only a few days later , buried according to halachic customs. My aunt Ruth will rest in eternal comfort due to Rabbi Kutner’s intervention. He as Nd I shared a special relationship since that day as only two who partnered in such an important mitzva could. .. He was a very special man!
