By now it is probably old news but the Walmart in South Euclid has greatly expanded their kosher offerings and is now even offering a wide selection of milchigs (milk, cream cheese, yogurt, leben, and more) at discounted prices. So this is not a free ad for the guys in Arkansas, but just a gentle reminder that as Yidden everything that we do, and even how we spend our money, is something that should be done with an ear to what is not just good for us, but what is good for our community, our businesses, and our future as a strong Jewish community. Just as we have found out in our obsession with low-priced goods from China, something may be cheap now but something else is going to have to give and our society will end up paying for the savings, just in different ways.

What a ridiculous post! First of all, to make such a post randomly without any rabbinic quotation or other facts provided, is negligent at best. We expect more of you.
Secondly, although I personally never shop at Walmart I’m sick of us being like the only developed frum city in the country without any full kosher experience. Whoever provides the needs of the tzibbur deserves to be supported by the tzibbur.

What about supporting our local Jewish stores???
Jeff Pash says
There is no mitzva to overpay and all the more so to pay at all for subpar product. My preference would be that a local owner would step up their game. That hasn’t happened nor will it.

What about supporting all local business’, We need not buy online, we need not support business that provide lower quality product.
For a community to grow, the locally owned, the home grown business need to survive and not by the skin of their teeth.

There is no way that a local store could sell milk for $2.99 which is the cost price no matter how much “they pick up their game.”
Dan says
Sweet! Thanks for letting me know that they’re selling milchigs now!

With any luck, the New York businessman talking about opening a full-service all kosher supermarket on Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst will carry through on his plan.

I was there today. I found a lot of interesting things. We also saw some krispy creme items that were OU pareve. It is nice to see the expansion of products. Some shelf space was empty, but I am sure it was because the items sold out.
Jeff Pash says
Bthw my point isn’t too not support the local Jewish businesses. But if they are unwilling to invest in their success they won’t be successful. In today’s world to compete you better be willing to make a considerable financial investment.

Just one point.. how many people are able or willing to extend credit to the needy of the community like some of the present store owners? How could any startup possibly survive?
