The Vaad Hakashrus Cleveland Kosher has certified the frozen beverages at Speedway in University Hts, indicating which are kosher through a posted notice on the wall on a volunteer basis, for the past several years.
However, recently the company remodeled and expanded the store’s selection. At this time, the Vaad would like to formalize the certification with the company. The certification presently is on hold awaiting a response from the company. The posted letter in the store expired on August 8.
We would encourage the community to contact Speedway requesting that they continue the certification at this location. The phone number is 800 643-1948. The website is Speedway.com and the page to submit comments is here. Mention store 9344 or the University Heights, OH store and ask them to consider formalizing kosher supervision of the cold fountain drinks.

Dear Speedway-
We are desperate. We rely on your frozen drinks to reward and encourage positive behavior from our children.
If my kids don’t get these, test scores will go down and so will at home behavior.
Please, it’s critical! Bring the kosher supervision on asap!!

I heard they put in a lot more slurpee machines and many of the newly-added flavors are not kosher, is that true?
Dewboy, many of the 7-11 slurpee flavors are kosher. Check out the CRC list.

Done!

Slurpee Lover:
No, it’s not true.
All their new flavors are made with syrups made by Sunny Sky Products in Houston. They are cerified by the HKA, a kashrus organization accepted by almost all Vaadim. (see here www.crcweb.org/agency_list.php)
This cannot change for sure until the end of this year, and will likely continue even later.
This is true for all Speedways nationwide. Cleveland Kosher is just saying that they are not going in to check anymore. It has nothing to do with the expansion. It has to do with Speedway not willing to pay for a Hashgocho.

I think people are not understanding. Everyone is going around saying “Speedway became treif!”
That is not true. Speedway is BETTER than 7-11, which the cRc Chicago and Star-K allow, if you use their UPDATED lists.
By Speedway, you do not need a list. All the flavors they can possibly get their hands on, at least until the end of this year, are kosher pareve, certified by the HKA of Houston. (except for Horschata flavor, which is Kosher dairy, but Speedway does not carry that flavor.) And the Pepsi and Mountain Dew flavors are made by Pepsico which is also certified kosher.
This is the same brand flavors they have been using for a long time. Nothing has changed with the added four flavors.
The only thing that changed is that Cleveland Kosher wants them to pay them for supervision. Of course it would be nice to have supervision there. However, whether or not it needs supervision, is not so clear.

Doesn’t anybody know that all that sugar is just plain not good for anyone, kosher or not?
